Description

Chamberlain’s early political career could have come to an untimely end

British politician (1869–1940) who served as prime minister from 1937 to 1940. TLS signed “N. Chamberlain,” one page, 8 x 10, personal letterhead, July 30, 1926. Letter to T. Sydney Walker. In part: “What really drove me out of Ladywood was the fear of having to abandon my work before it was finished. If I had been defeated in Ladywood, and had not had another Birmingham Seat to go to, I should have had to retire from political life, for I could not have brought myself to seek a Seat elsewhere than in my own city.” Chamberlain also adds a brief handwritten postscript. Central vertical and horizontal folds (vertical fold passing through first letter of the signature), and a small tear to top edge, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
