ALS signed “Joseph Story,” one page, 8 x 10, January 4, 1843. Letter to Justice John McLean. In part: “I shall certainly leave home the first promising day, and you may expect me at latest on Monday or Tuesday…I am very glad that Mrs. Carter has been able to lodge us this winter. My health is improving, but I am not entirely well, and indeed, such is the purpose of business in my circuit in bankruptcy and other vice that I am not permitted to have leisure to get well.” Reverse of second integral page bears a hand-addressed free franked panel by Story, to “Mr. Justice McLean of the Supreme Court,” and franked in the lower corner, “J. Story.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a bit of light soiling to second integral page. RR Auction COA.
