American statesman (1713–1786) who served as the first president (governor) of New Hampshire. The town of Weare, where he served as the first clerk, was named in his honor. Scarce partly-printed DS, signed “M. Weare,” one page, 14 x 11.25, April 12, 1785. Weare, as president of the New Hampshire Council, appoints Faber James “Ensign of the tenth company in the tenth Regiment of Militia in the said State of New Hampshire.” Suede-matted to an overall size of 20 x 17.5.
