Uncommon partly-printed vellum DS, signed as president, “James K. Polk,” and “James Buchanan,” as secretary of state, one page, 15.5 x 13.25, November 1, 1845. President Polk appoints Robert Grigg as “Consul of Her Brittanick Majesty for the states of Alabama and Florida, to reside at Mobile.” Signed at the conclusion by both Polk and Buchanan. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of Buchanan’s signature, and handwritten portions a shade or two light (but still completely legible).
