An original, unpublished handwritten poem, in pencil, on the front of a 5.5 x 3.25 postcard, postmarked Hyannis, Massachusetts, September 26, 1966. Kerouac’s original American haiku reads: “What is life? / When you get / formal / a cow / moos / in / Japan.” On the reverse, Kerouac writes a short ALS, also in pencil, signed “Jack,” and reads, “Dear Danny—If you come [to] Brockton Stella’s gonna keep the Hyannis house, Tony’ll be in Lowell where I'll meet him around Saturday the First or Sunday the second of October so he can drive us back to Hyannis & pick up Stella—I’ll be in Italy 3 days. See Ya!” Kerouac has also addressed the postcard to Dr. Danny DeSole. Some expected light creasing and toning, and some blotting of red ink where Kerouac wrote the date at the top of the letter, and date of postmark filled in in ink, otherwise fine condition.
