Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 12 x 15.5, June 6, 1822. President Monroe issues a land grant “in consideration of Military Service performed by James Barnett a Lieutenant for seven years and nine months and Joseph Smith a captain for seven years to the United States, in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment, and in pursuance of an act…intituled ‘An act to enable the Officers and the Soldiers of the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment, to obtain titles to certain lands lying north-west of the River Ohio, between the Little Miami and Sciota,…there is granted by the United States unto Duncan McArthur…a certain tract of land containing one hundred and fifty acres.” Signed at the conclusion by Monroe, and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office Josiah Meigs. In good to very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, Monroe’s signature a few shades light, but completely legible, scattered toning and wrinkling, adhesive remnants from seal, and light creases.
