Description

“The use of this weapon would significantly shorten or end the war—WWII”

ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 8.5 x 13.25, September 25, 2001. Letter describing his experience while dropping the atomic bomb. In part: “The mission was carried out by the 509th bomb group—a special unit, organized and trained to drop the atomic bombs…we were told that the use of this weapon would significantly shorten or end the war—WWII. This was our objective…The mission itself was very easy because everything went according to plan…After dropping the bomb it took +3 seconds for it to explode…We saw a very bright flash in the plane and later two shock waves from the bomb.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
