In full: “Inclosed is a check of the Treasury of the United States for Four Thousand Dollars ($4000.00) which is for deposit to my credit at your bank. Will you please notify me at your earliest convenience of the arrival of this check?” At the bottom, Eisenhower adds a handwritten postscript, signed, “D.D.E,” which reads, “Col Gerow will probably give you a ring to ask about the arrival of this check, as he may be able to send me an army radio. If he does call, it’s o.k. to tell him. Mrs. Eisenhower and I send personal regards to you.” Several pencil notations and an office stamp to upper right, otherwise fine condition.
