Letter to Mrs. Shafer. In full: “Your letter was received to-day. I will receive you & your Mother on Wednesday next–about half past two ocl, if I am in the city. There is some probability that I may be absent. But if here–will consider it as an engagement–I presume if I leave the city before that hour you will be made aware of the fact by the papers. My Father may be here but that is not at all certain–he resides with me.” In fine condition, with slight show-through from mounting remnants on reverse of second page.
