Seeking a lost author in occupied Japan

TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers letterhead, August 26, 1949. Response regarding a couple of residents of Japan. In part: “I had one of my assistants make inquiries about Doctor Oyabe and Mr. Sakamoto…Doctor Oyabe died on 10 March 1941. His son, Mr. Masayoshi Oyabe, went to the United States at the age of twenty…Mr. Sakamoto died some time after the end of the War…Thank you very much for your kind words about myself and our achievements here in Japan.” In fine condition, with a crease to the upper left corner. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. The Oyabe referred to in the letter is Jenichiro Oyabe, author of the pioneering work of Asian-American literature, A Japanese Robinson Crusoe; he returned to Japan shortly after publishing the book in 1898.
