Remarkable original 18.25 x 12.75 photo of the Capitol from the north-east side by Alexander Gardner, circa 1866, affixed to its original 23.5 x 18 mount. Mount bears a physical description, including the height of the dome, overall length of the building, and costs of construction. In good condition, with moderate to heavy overall dampstaining, silvering to dark areas of the image, and chipping to fragile edges. The photographic process of the mid-19th century made prints of this size quite expensive and thus extremely scarce. Despite any flaws, this is an image of tremendous historical significance and will make for wonderful display. RR Auction COA.
