David D. Porter

Admiral (1813–1891) who helped improve the Navy as the Superintendent of the US Naval Academy after significant service in the American Civil War. ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 8 x 13.5, Naval Yard, Portsmouth, N. H., July 7, 1857. Letter to Commodore Pickering. In part: “In obedience to regulations, the engines were exercised yesterday…and were found to be in good order and ready for use.” In fine condition, with a bit of light edge toning. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
