Samuel W. Crawford

Army surgeon and Union general (1829–1892) who was on duty during the Confederate attack on Fort Sumter to start the Civil War and later led troops in support of Col. Strong Vincent at Little Round Top. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Crawford in uniform and sporting tremendous sideburns by E. & H. T. Anthony of New York, signed at the bottom of the image in black ink, “Very truly yours, S. W. Crawford,” along with his rank and regiment. Clipped corner tips, otherwise fine condition.
