American neoclassical sculptor (1805–1873). Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait by L. Powers of Florence, signed in the lower border in black ink, and signed and inscribed on the reverse to the famous poet, “For John G. Whittier, Esq., with H. Powers’ kindest regards—Florence, Oct. 1th [sic], 1867.” In fine condition, with an ink notation to the upper border on the reverse. RR Auction COA.
