Union general (1834–1903) who played a prominent role in the siege of Petersburg and the Appomattox Campaign. After the war he served as a member of the commission which tried the Lincoln Conspirators. Original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo by P. S. Ryder of Indianapolis, signed and inscribed on the reverse in black ink, “To my friend, Col. A. S. Tollanbee, R. S.
