Description

Pol Plancon

Distinguished French operatic bass (1851–1914) considered one of the most acclaimed singers active during the 1880s, 1890s, and early 1900s—a period often referred to as the Golden Age of Opera. Vintage 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by Aime Dupont of New York, signed and inscribed in fountain pen in French to soprano Clementine de Vere Sapio (translated): “To my very dear Comrade and Friend Madame de Vere Sapio Her Mephisto for one day Pol Plancon 1897.” Some light silvering to darker areas of image, visible only at an angle, a bit of trivial spotting to image, and mounting remnants to reverse, otherwise fine condition. RR Auction COA.
