Handwritten lyrics from the ultra-rare ‘Chop Suey’ featured in Get Crazy

Handwritten lyrics to the Ramone’s song ‘Chop Suey,’ on the back of a 12 x 9 off-white mailing envelope. A work in progress, Joey pens the first verses and chorus of ‘Chop Suey,’ in black felt tip, writing the title at the top, along with “Slam Dancing.” In full: “I know a place where the kids all dance/I know a place ain’t in Paris France/Chop Suey Chop Suey/I know a place where they really groove ya/A wam bam flip flop flim flam/slam dance coup/ Chop Suey Chop Suey/Suey O-O/Chop Suey/Chop Chop/Suey Suey.” Joey had added a few notations to the front of the envelope, in part, “Hang out all night…Get Soused yeah that’s alright.” Envelope is addressed to Ramone, using his real name, and sent from Overland in the Bowery. In fine condition, with scattered toning and soiling. ‘Chop Suey’ was featured on the soundtrack for the 1983 cult favorite film Get Crazy. The song was also an outtake from Pleasant Dreams, with backing vocals by Deborah Harry, and Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson of the B-52s. Provenance: Joey Ramone Estate. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the Joey Ramone Estate. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
