Union soldier (1835–1916) who was injured twice during the Battle of the Crater, resulting in the loss of a leg; he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism. ALS signed “I. S. Catlin,” one page, lightly-lined, 5 x 7.5, Owego, New York, June 8, 1866. In full: “I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of my Commn. as Brig.
