Description

“The President will not dare to veto the Resolution if it passes the two Houses of Congress”

ALS, one page, 7.75 x 10, January 14, 1834. Postscript of a letter to Samuel L. Gouverneur. In part: “Rely upon it the removal of the deposits will be strongly condemned by an immense majority. This condemnation, I think, cannot [but help] to break the administration phalanx in the U. S. H. of Representatives, & induce some thirty or forty Jackson men to vote for a restoration. Rely also upon the appearance that the President will not dare to veto the Resolution if it passes the two Houses of Congress.” Scott also addressed the address panel on the reverse in his own hand. In very good condition, with intersecting folds with slight separations, one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature, scattered wrinkling and toning, and a couple areas of paper loss to the left border. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
