“When musing on companions gone—We doubly feel ourselves alone”

Pensive AQS, signed “Jno. S. Mosby, San Francisco, Aug. 5th/88,” on an off-white 4.25 x 2.75 card. Mosby pens a solemn couplet from Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Marmion,’ in full: “‘When musing on companions gone—We doubly feel ourselves alone.’” In very good condition, with moderate scattered soiling and mounting remnants to reverse from previous display in a scrapbook.
