Description

Joplin luncheon receipt from the day of one of her last concerts

Receipt for a four-person luncheon at the London House in Chicago, one page both sides, 4.25 x 8, August 5, 1970. Meal included one “club,” one “hamb,” two “BBQ,” and one “dessert.” On the reverse, Joplin prints her last name and room number in blue ballpoint, “Joplin, 267,” signing in full, “Janis Joplin.” Receipt was signed just two days after one of Joplin’s last public appearances, a performance of ‘Half Moon’ and ‘My Baby’ on the Dick Cavett Show on August 3, 1970. Joplin and Full Tilt performed on the night of August 5 at Ravina Park in Highland Park, Illinois. Less than two months later she would die of an accidental drug overdose. In very good condition, with some toning and soiling to the reverse, slightly affecting the signature, some light soiling to front, and a few light surface creases. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
