War-dated ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4 x 5, April 28, 1864. From Delmonico’s Scott writes to Mr. Hall. In full: “I sent you a day or two a photograph from my bust to engrave from. Mr. Rockwell the photographist things [sic] he can give nothing better for the purpose, but as he intends to make other copies, I may send you another, but in the meantime please proceed with the one you have. I now send you a page of the book your engraving is intended, in part, to illustrate. The margins of the page you will perceive are not correct.” Scott adds two postscripts, both signed “W. S.,” one on the reverse of the second page reads, “Altho’ I have the privilege of franking my own letters yours will not be forwarded unless you mark them on public service or pre-pay postage.” Second page is inlaid into a slightly larger off-white sheet. In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned original carte-de-visite of Scott by Chas. D.
