Between terms, Cleveland refuses to sign a photo as “it is such a dreadful failure as a likeness that I am not willing to endorse it”

ALS, one page, 4.5 x 6.75, personal letterhead, November 11, 1891. Letter to an admirer. In full: “I return the photographs you sent us for our signatures. You will see that I have not signed one of mine. It is such a dreadful failure as a likeness that I am not willing to endorse it.” In fine condition, with a bit of trivial edge toning. The following year Cleveland would be nominated at the Democratic Convention, and again assuming the presidency in 1893. RR Auction COA.
