American military officer and statesman (1826–1886) who fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. An activist on behalf of veterans’ affairs, Logan was instrumental in the creation of Memorial Day as a public holiday. Original 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by Bogardus of New York, signed in the lower border in black ink, “yours truly, John A. Logan.” In very good condition, with some scattered light rubbing and surface marks, small spot to lower portion of image, pencil notation to lower border, small crease to lower left corner and two library stamps on reverse.
