Description

Striking portrait of the prominent Victorian poet

Distinguished British poet (1809–1892) who was one of the most highly regarded and influential literary figures of the Victorian era. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Tennyson by Elliott & Fry, signed below the image in black ink, “A. Tennyson.” Printed text on the reverse reads: “Elliot & Fry, 55, Baker Street, Portman Square, London, W.” Light foxing and soiling, a trivial crease to the lower right corner tip of the mount, mild silvering to dark areas of the photo, and a few pencil notations to the reverse, otherwise fine condition. An uncommon image, as Tennyson portraits typically depict him later in life and looking to his left. RR Auction COA.
