Blackfoot chief (1872–1934) best known for the durable though still-controversial claim that he served as one of models for sculptor James Earle Fraser in creating the composite Native American portrait on the ‘Buffalo’ nickel. Vintage 3.25 x 5.25 postcard photo, signed in black ink with his three-character pictogram of two rifles and a horned calf. Reverse bears a collector’s notation of provenance which states “I really saw this man to-night and asked him to write his name on this card. A good looking Indian in full dress.
