Early French Revolution officer’s appointment

Partly-printed DS, in French, signed “Lafayette,” one page, 9.25 x 13.75, September 1, 1789. Brevet appointment of Mathurin Ganieu as Lieutenant. Signed near the bottom by Lafayette, as Commanding General of the Paris National Guard and also signed by the mayor of Paris Jean-Sylain Bailly and Joseph Leonard Poirey, Lafayette’s secretary and aide-de-camp. Poirey served with Lafayette in America and was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, several old repairs to reverse of folds, and scattered toning and creasing. The paper seal at the bottom is worn, but intact. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
