Union Generals George A. Custer and Alfred Pleasonton in Warrenton Virginia, October 9 1863 by Timothy O'Sullivan, 5.5 x 4 albumen print, mounted to a 7 x 9 sheet of modern paper. Well known and documented image. It is important to note that O'Sullivan said he broke the original glass negative at some point and nearly all of his photographs of this scene have a noticeable long 'crack' in in the left side of the image. This offered albumen photograph does not have that crack. The sepia image is detailed, clear and beautiful, even showing the fall leaves on the ground. The paper backing has a pencil note and neat rectangle around the image from when the photographic print was mounted. The image is pictured in the book Custer in Photographs by Mark Katz and a photocopy of the page is included. RR Auction COA.
