Important French painter and printmaker (1864–1901) whose lively, colorful portrayals of the people and places of fin-de-siècle Paris take a place among the most iconic images of the era. Lautrec’s immersion in art stemmed largely from his isolation following a disfiguring teenage accident that failed to heal properly, preventing his legs from growing further while his torso continued to develop normally. ALS in French, signed “H. T. Lautrec,” one page, 4.25 x 7, no date. Letter to his “maitre,” another painter who he looked up to. In full (translated): “We will work on Thursday and Friday if this is agreeable to you. Please send me word to let me know if I can count on you.” In very good condition, with a few vertical creases, one affecting the beginning of the signature, a block of toning over the letter and signature from previous display, pencil notation to upper right corner, and slight mirroring of the signature along the top.
