Striking albumen card photograph of Tolstoy, 4,25 x 7.5, affixed to a 6 x 10 mount. A small vintage paper label on the reverse identifies the image as Tolstoy at age 30. Image is detailed and clear, with significant wear to the mount, including well worn corners, creases, a missing surface piece to the upper left corner, and tape to the reverse. At the time of the photo, Tolstoy would have recently finished publishing his autobiographical trilogy, and in a few years would begin to craft one of literature’s greatest works, War and Peace.
