Distinguished American-born artist (1856–1925) who spent most of his career as an expatriate in Europe. While he painted a variety of subjects in various media, his fame rests primarily on his evocative, penetrating society portraits. ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, no date. In part: “My best wishes to you…for the new year—it would be a pleasure to see you.” He goes on to arrange plans to meet.
