Description

American musician (1909–1959) acclaimed as one of the greatest tenor sax and clarinet players in the history of jazz. He finally succumbed, after a long struggle, to alcoholism at the age of 49. Postcard of Count Basie, 3.25 x 5.25, signed in pencil on the reverse by Lester Young and key members of the 1939 Count Basie Band, including Dick Wells, Helen Humes, Buddy Tate, Buck Clayton, Dan Minor, Freddie Green, Harry Edison, Ed Lewis, James Rushing, and Earle Warren. Slight corner tip creasing, scattered toning, and light pencil notations indicating each musician’s instrument, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
