American evangelist and publisher (1837–1899) who founded the Moody Church, Northfield School, and Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts. Two TLSs to Francis E. Clark signed “D. L. Moody,” each one page, 8 x 11, The Northfield Schools letterhead, April, 1896: one TLS asking for donations to help make the schools self-sustaining, as raising tuition would “preculde just the class of pupils we aim to help;” and a follow-up TLS thanking Clark for his $10 donation. Pages are affixed on top of each other to a slightly larger sheet. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, passing through a single letter of each signature, a uniform shade of toning with a heavier block to the lower left, scattered wrinkling, and creases to the right border.
