In full: “Last night I dropped by to see Lenore [Ulric] and found her, face down, on a couch crying her heart out—it wasn’t the picture or her part that caused it, but conditions back home and a general lonely helplessness—she is baffled and troubled by career conditions which are crushing her to earth—She respects you greatly George, loves you very much for your patient sympathetic kindly treatment—Last night she said over and over; ‘George is an angel—He’s the only one in the theatre besides Belasco that I have confidence in—the only one who knows what it’s all about—I’m writing this so you’ll know that when you offer your richly upholstered shoulder for her to cry on, and bolster her up with counsel and encouragement, it is both needed & appreciated—I am not much help now, as an ex- who is not exactly burning up the course—but I am one of the remaining few who loves her and who wants to see her come out of the slump and get on top—where she damn well deserves to be—Thanks again George! Congratulations on your magnificent successes and warmest good wishes always.” A light to moderate shade of toning, pencil notation to the lower edge, and trivial brush to part of the signature, otherwise fine condition.
