Description

Calvin Coolidge

TLS, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, March 8, 1924. Letter to James M. Beck. In full: “Accept my thanks for the very frank statement of your own position in this matter which you discuss under date of March 6th. I quite understand and have the greatest sympathy with your feelings in this regard, and I shall be glad to have your suggestion as to the particular thing which I might do to make my position entirely clear and to testify in a proper public fashion the full measure of confidence which you know I entertain in you and your services. I shall be glad of your suggestion.” Affixed to a larger 8 x 11 sheet. In fine condition, with mild scattered wrinkling and light soiling to the upper left. Coolidge’s vague letter possibly refers to the situation with his corrupt attorney general, Harry M. Daugherty, who Coolidge would force to resign mere weeks later on March 28, making Beck the acting attorney general. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
