Description

Teddy Kollek

Mayor of Jerusalem (1911–2007) from 1965–1993. Much of the face of modern Jerusalem is due to Kollek’s efforts, earning him the unofficial title of ‘the greatest builder of Jerusalem since Herod.’ TLS signed in English and Hebrew, one page, 8.25 x 11.75, personal letterhead, August 6, 2002. Letter to a middle school class. In part: “I was very happy to hear about your class and your interest in writing. I have been writing letters for almost 90 years. I was also pleased to hear that you have been learning about Jerusalem and government around the world. I am no longer Mayor of Jerusalem but for 28 years I had the honor and privilege of serving as the Mayor of this very special city. I took care of everything in the city from worrying about garbage collection to ensuring freedom of religion by making sure that everyone could pray in their own way.” In fine condition, with scattered wrinkles and intersecting folds, one of them passing through the Hebrew signature.
