The Beatles Yesterday and Today mono version ‘butcher’ cover album. This example, known as a ‘third state’ butcher cover, owing to the fact the commercially released ‘trunk’ cover has been expertly removed from the album jacket, revealing the original butcher cover underneath. In very good condition, with just some mild scattered light surface loss and adhesive remnants to cover, scattered edge wear, a partial separation to hinge, and some toning and soiling to back cover. The album is included. Within days of releasing this miscellany of previous hits, Capitol recalled all copies in response to retailers’ negative reactions to the macabre cover image: a photo of the four mop-tops dressed in butchers’ coats and draped with raw meat and doll parts. The recalled copies were “retrofitted” with a new pictorial flat, pasted over the first, featuring an innocuous image of the boys posed around a steamer trunk. RR Auction COA.
