ALS in French, one page, 7 x 4.5, February 14, 1890. Letter to Roger Gourdain acknowledging a 100 franc subscription toward the purchase of Manet’s ‘Olympia.’ In full (translated): “Received from Mr. Roger Gourdain the amount of one hundred francs for the subscription of the purchase of the Olympia of Manet.” In very good condition, with a central vertical fold, a mild shade of toning to page, and scattered areas of ink pooling to several letters. Monet believed 'Olympia' to be an extremely important painting and spearheaded an effort to purchase it for the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris. He succeeded in 1890 and the painting is currently hung in the Musee d'Orsay, Paris. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
