Very neat unflown freeze-dried ‘moon food,’ from the command module and lunar module simulator. This particular example, labeled “Applesauce,” packet measures 3.75 x 7.5, with a label identifying the food and the simple instructions “7 oz. cold water 2-5 minutes.” Also included is a two page ‘blueprint,’ by Melpar, Inc., of Falls Church, Virginia, one page listing the food’s requirements and storage, the other the part number and weight, which is signed by five company officials. Food created for the Apollo missions was preserved through freeze-drying and vacuum-sealing, resulting in a product that kept their nutritional and ‘taste’ qualities. RRAuction COA.
