After losing her mother, Russell writes a note of thanks to a thoughtful friend, in part: “How can I begin to thank you for your wonderful letter? I meant so much to me (& always will). No matter how prepared one is—a shock when the end comes—& no one can ever replace one’s mother! Mine was very special & was the only one who ever encouraged me when I first wanted to go into the theatre!” Central horizontal and vertical fold, a bend to the lower right corner of the first page, a light diagonal crease, Russell’s name written across the top of the front page in another hand, and light toning along the central folds, otherwise fine condition.
