Poster for the Woodstock Music & Art Fair, 13.5 x 22. Universally regarded as a watershed moment in popular culture and music, the festival in upstate New York was attended by a half-million fans, most of them arriving with no tickets, who gathered for ‘three days of peace and music.’ More than thirty acts appeared, including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Janis Joplin, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jefferson Airplane, Sly & The Family Stone, The Grateful Dead, Joe Cocker, Richie Havens, and John Sebastian. When artist David Byrd was commissioned to create an original commemorative poster for the ‘Woodstock Music & Art Fair: An Aquarian Exposition,’ the event was scheduled for Wallkill, New York on August 15-17, 1969. A mere 18 days before the three-day festival was to take place, the promoter’s license to hold the event was revoked and the site was moved to White Lake, NY. Very few of Byrd’s posters were ever distributed. In fine condition, with a few light corner tip dings and creases. RRAuction COA.
