ALS signed “OW Holmes,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, October 3, 1893. Letter to Mr. Miller. In full: “I have been much exercised in mind about your letter received some weeks ago. The prolonged absence of my Secretary, on whom I was and am very dependen -my own absence from town and the state of my eyes (opactus?) and my hand (cramps, from which I am luckily free at this moment, maybe half an hour ago I could not write at all) must be my excuse for my seeming negligence of your letter. I expect my Secretary back this week. In the mean time I have an assistant pro tem whom I will request to hunt up your letter. I have most of the editions of my book and can make my additions or corrections if your bibliography requires it. My assistant comes this afternoon and I will set her at work to put your letter among the heaps I have received, most of which she has arranged. As soon as I can I will write again-or dictate as the case may be.” In very good condition, with moderate toning to front, small separation along hinge of integral second page, and a bit of trivial toning.
