In a scarce handwritten letter, the beat poet remembers Kerouac

ALS signed “Allen,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, Denver Hilton letterhead, May 24, 1972. Letter to Peter Orlovsky. In part: “I bought a knapsack & used down G.I.…sleeping bag & am taking off on the open road North of here…& travel slow to see the Yellowstone Park & Tetons I never saw before…While I was reading the Kerouac—real visions…and old places of the street here praying to Neal & Jack’s…Last night I realized now that I had a good sleeping bag again & knapsack, I could wander around the U.S. all I want anonymous show up city after city, Missoula or Bayemon or Santa Fe & just be a…minstrel & sing in the city square.” Intersecting folds, scattered creases and wrinkles, and a few spots of mild toning, otherwise fine condition.
