Description

Taylor supplies Fort Crawford with fuel for the bitter Wisconsin winter

Partly-printed DS, signed “Z. Taylor, Col., 1st Regt. U.S. Infy,” one page, 7.75 x 6.75, January 1833. Taylor signs off on a requisition for six cords of wood for a kitchen and servants quarters at Fort Crawford. Double matted to an overall size of 14 x 11. In very good to fine condition, with two horizontal folds, one having a partial separation, fold passing between Taylor’s signature and rank, scattered light toning, some lightly affecting signature, and show-through from docketing on reverse. Fort Crawford was an outpost of the United States Army located in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, during the 19th Century. The army's occupation of Prairie du Chien actually spanned the lifetime of two fortifications, both of them named Fort Crawford. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
