Description

Apollo 15’s ‘lunar license plate’ carried by Scott in the ‘moon buggy’

Flight-flown aluminum plate, 1.25 x .75 bearing the text: "MOON, LRV 001,1971" with a NASA logo at upper left and a Boeing logo at upper right. Boeing was the prime contractor for the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) and they manufactured a small number of these mini plates for the first Lunar Rover. Astronaut Dave Scott carried them in his space suit knee pocket on all three lunar EVAs. Apollo 15 was the first to carry this ‘moon buggy’ and is considered to be the most successful of the lunar missions from a scientific standpoint. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Dave Scott. RRAuction COA.
