Description

A Virginian receives land once surveyed by George Washington

Partly-printed DS, signed “P. Henry,” one page, 16.25 x 12.5, August 4, 1785. Land grant issued by Henry, as governor of Virginia, to William Tilton for 1840 acres “by Survey…in the County of Monongalia (now West Virginia)…on the west side of the little Kenhawa (now Little Kanawha River)….” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered toning, creasing, and soiling, and some light mirroring of ink from folding. The white paper seal is crisp and intact. This particular tract of land was originally located in 1771 by George Washington adding a unique and interesting association to the document. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
