Thomas Nast

American political cartoonist and illustrator (1840–1902) best known for devising the donkey and elephant symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties and the familiar ‘American’ version of Santa Claus. Bank check, 8 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Nast, “Th: Nast,” payable to Wright & DeCoster for $8.50, May 12, 1893. Three vertical folds, cancellation cuts to body, expected stamps and a trimmed bottom edge, otherwise fine condition. RRAuction COA.
