Continental Army officer (1746–1807), Muhlenberg left the ministry in 1776 to command a Virginia regiment. He soon became a brigadier general, and fought Benedict Arnold in Virginia. LS signed “Your most Obed Sevt, P. Muhlenberg,” one page, 8 x 6.5, January 21, 1800. Short letter to the Chairman of the Committee of Claims. In part: “Mr. Kahn whose Petition if before the Committee…requests me to present to you the enclosed paper, which he conceives necessary to establish his claim.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, uniform toning, and a bit of mild soiling.
