Original vintage signed ink sketch of Tolstoy sitting outdoors, done by an unknown artist, on a 4 x 5.25 sheet and affixed to a 5 x 7 light gray heavy stock card. Signed under the image in black ink, “Leo Tolstoy, 1895, 17. October.” In very good condition, with much of Tolstoy’s facial features indistinct, lending an eerie ghost-like quality to image, creasing to lower right affecting signature, some scattered light soiling and foxing to edges, and a few spots to image. A well-done image of one of the most influential writers of the 19th century. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed to Joseph Edwards of Liverpool, England, presumably the artist.
