TLS, one page, 8 x 10.25, United States Senate letterhead, July 27, 1944. Letter to W. T. Knight and Henry Fulcher, editors of the Wichita Falls Record News. In part: “It was nice of you to remember the Dallas meeting. I do not think I have ever enjoyed one any more than I did that one and I hope it will be possible for me to come back to Texas when the campaign is going on.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Truman did not actively seek the vice presidential nomination, but the party was concerned with FDR’s declining health, and chances were very high he would not live to serve another full term. This came to truth as Truman served only 82 days as vice-president before assuming the presidency. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
